In 2023, our founder was dining at a restaurant in Charleston, West Virginia, when he overheard a group of educators discussing how much they had spent on school supplies for their students. What stood out was their unwavering dedication— despite the financial burden, they weren’t complaining; they were simply doing what was necessary to support their classrooms. Moved by their commitment, the founder of WV Resource Center spent weeks researching the challenges teachers face in accessing essential resources. This led to a bold new vision: establishing a free resource store for educators serving seven counties in West Virginia.
Inspired by the success of similar programs in other cities and recognizing the urgent need for educational support in our state, WV Resource Center was officially founded in 2025. A Board of Directors was formed, and 501(c)(3) nonprofit status was obtained, marking the beginning of a transformative journey.
Thanks to the dedication of hundreds of volunteers contributing thousands of hours, the WV Resource Center is proud to collaborate with The County Board of Education and a local realtor to establish our headquarters and FREE Store in Cabell County, WV. The facilities we are considering will most likely require renovations, but once completed, it will serve as the central hub for our first in-school supply distribution center. Additionally, in its inaugural year, the center will launch its first Back-to-School Campaign, further advancing our mission to support educators and students in need.
In September 2025, the WV Resource Center will introduce its inaugural pilot program, establishing the first Teacher Resource Center. This initiative will provide free school and classroom supplies to students and educators across multiple West Virginia counties, including Boone, Cabell, Kanawha, Lincoln, Mason, Putnam, and Wayne.
With an estimated $1,000,000 worth of school supplies set for distribution, WV Resource Center is positioned to serve over 240,000 students across 55 WV Schools Districts. Our support will extend to Pre-K through 12th-grade public schools in counties where at least 50% of students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch through the National School Lunch Program (NSLP).
